West Coast Cruise 2011 & 2012
Cruise Details 2012
Our “Royal Route” cruise for 2012 was a unique sailing experience from Greenock through the Crinan and Caledonian Canals to Inverness.
This truly magnificent journey, made famous by Queen Victoria, is home to some of the most captivating scenery and wildlife on the West Coast of Scotland.
We sailed through the Great Glen along the world-famous Caledonian Canal. Some sixty miles in length, forty of which are natural freshwater locks, dotted here and there with small islands, the beauty of which both fascinates and charms, while the pine-clad mountains sail past. A wonderful sailing experience, beautiful and awe-inspiring in its grandeur, the entire area is steeped in past history of the Clans Fraser and Cameron.
The “Royal Route” may not be the fastest way to travel from Greenock to Inverness but it is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing forms of transport.
Cruise Details 2011
Our West Coast cruise for 2011 allowed cruising opportunities within an area of stunning coastal scenery, and a number of unique calls and visits at piers and lochs not visited by passenger vessel for a long number of years.
On a historical note, the weekend partly commemorated the long serving MacBrayne’s vessel ‘Loch Fyne’ which commenced service 80 years ago in 1931. The route and calling places followed by Rover to Ardrishaig , and from Oban to Fort William ,whilst standing in for King George V, would have been very familiar to the Loch Fyne.
The route loosely followed MacBraynes famous Royal Route from the Clyde to the Western Highlands..
